Let's Talk About Alfred
20 Mar 2025 · Russell
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred gave the Northern Rivers region its most significant weather event in recent memory. It also gave us something valuable: a real test of our community resilience networks, emergency plans, and communication systems.
Now that the immediate response is behind us, it's time to talk about what happened — what worked, what didn't, and what we want to do differently next time.
Come Join the Conversation
The Minyon Resilience Network is hosting a community debrief session to discuss Alfred's impact and what it means for ongoing preparedness.
We want to hear from:
- Residents who sheltered in place or evacuated
- Community members who helped neighbours
- Local business owners
- Anyone who relied on (or tried to rely on) emergency information sources during the event
What We're Exploring
- How did information flow during the event? Where were the gaps?
- Which community connections proved most valuable?
- What resources were missing or hard to access?
- What would you do differently?

Details on community debrief sessions will be shared through the MRN Facebook group and email list. In the meantime, feel free to reach out directly.
