Recovery Basics Webinar Series

30 Oct 2024 · Russell

The Australian Red Cross is running a free Recovery Basics webinar series — a practical resource for anyone who wants to understand what recovery looks like after a disaster and how communities can support each other through the process.

About the Series

Recovery Basics is designed for community members, volunteers, and anyone involved in supporting their neighbours after an emergency. The sessions cover:

  • What recovery actually involves (it's more than clean-up)
  • How to support yourself and others during prolonged recovery
  • Community and social recovery — the often-overlooked dimension
  • Available support services and how to access them
  • Building longer-term community resilience

Why This Matters for the Northern Rivers

Our region has been through repeated events — the 2022 floods, ongoing storm seasons, and the stress of prolonged recovery. Understanding the recovery process helps communities avoid common pitfalls: volunteer fatigue, inequitable resource distribution, and losing momentum before the work is done.

How to Register

These sessions are free and run online via Zoom. Register through the Australian Red Cross website:
